Doot Beach Now…2009
April 14, 2009I visited Gigaquit last March 21 - 24, 2009, please have time to watch the following videos:
The once beautiful Doot Beach has been gone. Beautiful memories within this beach could now only be cherished through old pictures.
My kids were so lucky that they were able to enjoy this proud beach last last year. They had too much fun collecting some empty shells and catching some little live crabs. They even brought with them their priceless catch in our home in Cavite. As I let them see these videos, they were so shocked and couldn’t believe what did happen: “Di na kami makaligo at makapasyal dyan Tatay?” was their question. I just told them: “Maswerte kayo at naabutan nyo pa at naenjoy nyo pa yan”. I remember when I was a little kid from Poniente, my visit to Gigaquit (Poblacion) would never be complete without the glimpse of Doot Beach. Whenever we had special occassions or after the fiesta, surely, we would be having a picnic at Doot Beach… those were the days…huh!
After the January storm that changed the face of Doot Beach, people from barrios and kailajahan went to Poblacion just to see the beach. According to Alvin Egay: “Tuyo lagi an luha nan mga tiguyang pagkakita sa Doot”. Really true! I, for myself, got a sadness feeling when I saw Doot. Doot Beach has been a part of every Gigaquitnon and every Gigaquitnon is always a part of Doot! This time, Doot needs us. What shall we do now to save her?
Please do share these videos to all Gigaquitnons and Gigaquitnons by heart out there so they will know that Gigaquit is also waiting for them. I hope my little way of spreading the news be able to open some eyes and hearts for our beloved Gigaquit.

A POEM
September 24, 2008
I would rather have one little rose
from the garden of a friend
than to have the choicest flowers
when my stay on earth must end
I would rather have a pleasure word
in kindness said to me
than flattery when my heart is still,
and life has ceased to be.
I would rather have a loving smile
from friends i know are true
than tears shed ’round my casket
when to this world i bid adieu.
Bring me all your flowers today,
whether pink, or white, or red.
I’d rather have one blossom now
than a truckload when i”m dead.
- Mr. Arsenio B. Martin -
former IMEDECO Chairman
This poem got my attention yesterday. It was written on a piece of paper and artistically decorated with a beatiful picture of the receipient of this wonderful gift. It was posted on top of a computer that I was using in IMEDECO Office (Imus Municipal Employees Development Cooperative) as a gift for Ms. JC by Mr. Martin. The poem has no author written and nobody in the office knew the Title and the “real” author of this remarkable literary piece so we presumed that the late Mr. Martin wrote this. I had no intention of plagirizing this poem and if somebody happens to know the real author of this, please let me know.

SAI 4th Grand Homecoming
“We left SAI but SAI never left in our hearts!”… Just like a mother who constantly awaits her sons and daughters, SAI still stands proud and lovingly caresses her present children. The 4th SAI General Homecoming that was held last September 23 - 23 was a great day to meet and update your old pals and classmates. Though not all Batches or Classes from 1951 to present were individually represented, the event was worth attending for. We (with Ate Fe Tupal-Madamba) travelled all the way from Manila to Gigaquit just to attend this special occasion. Our family from our father, mother, kaming 7children were all SAI graduates except our bunso - Michael- who just attended his freshman and sophomore years sa SAI. He graduated in San Nicolas in Surigao City). It was nice to see your classmates once again, your old friends and old acquitances. The atmosphere during the celebration was very festive; incidentally, it was a week before the Gigaquit Town Fiesta. The day was hot and quite dry but every batch participated the parade enthusiastically. The dual citizenship (senior citizen / Filipino citizen…hehehe) SAIans who were not able to endure the heat during the parade were into the convoy of cars. The parade started from the Church after the special mass held specially for the SAI Alumni, then it went through the beautifully decorated streets of Alambique down to the Main road then back to the SAI ground. It was followed then by a very colorful and well executed presentation by the SAI Sirong Sirong group. It amazed me how the new SAIans now did those kind of presesentation! I remember our years before that in every special occasion like this, tama na ang Drum and bugle Corps tuwang tuwa na ang crowd…hehehe… nag evolve na rin ang SAI (’kako). It was nice to watch their presentation to the delight of the whole Alumni also. I don’t know if they were able to perform on a bigger crowd already outside Gigaquit but the group is very competitive and deserved a very good compliment… bravo! hurray! clap…clap…clap! i might upload your video guys on youtube (puede ba?) …hehehe…I got your whole presentation on video anyway. After the presentaion, the whole group then proceeded to the Gigaquit Multi purpose building for the Programs. Honestly, the alumni were not all ears to the report and satsatan sa taas ng stage, but instead they were all busy with their batchmates chatting: di matapos tapos an ‘wentuhan e. Keber ba kung anong laman ng financial report ni Mano Luya basta tuloy lamang an way katapusan na tawanan remembering those high school years pati mga kapalpakan namo sa una. Que se hudang may election pa pala sa hapon our batch (batch ‘87) escaped the program and went to the Townhouse to plan our dinner (kainan na naman huh!).
The fellowship night (as what it should be) was (for me) disappointing. Seeing and judging the alumni crowd who were mainly composed of Batch 80’s to present, the night was to be a night full of fun and dancing but it turned out to be a Coronation Night! whoahhhh! I could not get the point that the organizer still made an “instant muse segment” of that night where it took them almost 3 hours to finish that instead of pure fun for all alumni. It was about or past 11pm already when the “Coronation” had finished. The dual citizens and the baby boomers were going home now but the martial law babies and the yuppies were starting to come alive. The dance floor were full and you could feel the enjoyment of the crowd. I didn’t know what time it finished but we needed to go home past 12mn, we still have an early flight back to Manila tomorrow.
Sa iban na waya makaattend, I am posting the pictures during the Alumni Celebration. For the video, I will post that some other site kasi malapit na mafull eto e.
Enjoy all! SAI matters!
